Battery chargers for mining support equipment

Specify charging for mine-site stores, workshops and surface support equipment. Consider dust, heat, filtered cooling, site power and service access.

Plan the charging around the work.

For stores, workshops and surface fleets, dust, heat, available power and service access can matter as much as output current.

01

Select cooling for the dust exposure

We consider suitable filter-equipped chargers or a robust outdoor configuration according to location and duty. The documented outdoor design uses washable fan filters. Allow access for inspection and cleaning, with a maintenance routine matched to the dust load and the specified model.

02

Put the charger where it can be serviced

Keep cooling paths clear and allow technicians to isolate, inspect and service the equipment. Heat, water exposure and cleaning methods affect placement. For remote support, plan critical spares and the charging arrangement if a unit is unavailable; an extra port does not provide automatic redundancy.

03

Check the supply and the next shift together

Approved battery current, connection time and next-duty priorities determine the output needed. The site electrical team must check available supply and simultaneous demand. If charging is generator-supplied, include the generator in that assessment.

Keep site approvals explicit

This guidance covers material handling and support equipment. Underground, hazardous-area and heavy-haul applications need their own engineering and approval review. An outdoor cabinet or dust filter does not establish Ex or underground certification.

Before you specify

Charging questions.

What helps charging equipment cope with workshop dust?

A suitable filtered or outdoor configuration can be considered for the model, duty and dust load. The documented outdoor design uses washable fan filters. Keep inspection and cleaning access clear and maintain filters according to the specified equipment and site conditions. Review outdoor configurations.

Is the standard range approved for underground or hazardous areas?

No such approval is claimed here. Those applications require specialist engineering and confirmation of the required certification. An outdoor cabinet or dust filter does not establish Ex or underground approval. Review the selection boundaries.

Can charging run from a generator supply?

Include the generator in the site electrical assessment. Charger input requirements, simultaneous loads and the supply’s suitability must be checked before specifying the arrangement; a matching plug alone is insufficient. Review AC supply requirements.
